A feasibility project for a community centre on a small constricted site in Basford, Stoke on Trent. The main office space was situated by the entrance to enable the future user to view new visitors to the building. |

An organic design approach was employed to meet a demanding brief for a flexible and economical mixed use community facility. High level windows were positioned to ensure privacy to neighbouring dwellings while at the same time forming light wells directing daylight deep into the plan. |

The north to south orientated roof form was designed to provide solar shading in summer when the sun is high and penetration during winter when it is low. Main services were grouped together to allow easy economical connections to the existing foul drainage system. |

A flexible main room was proposed that could be opened up to create spaces of different scales to allow a variety of uses from bowling competitions to small meetings and community events. Flush storage walls were proposed so furniture could be stowed away to enable sporting activities to take place in safety. |
