To the west of the lake lies Kings wood, the deciduous woodland houses some fine specimens of beech and oak among other more exotic varieties. Sprinkled between them the biannual inflatables can be found waiting for the right moment. | ||||

In late summer after the bluebells have gone sensors tell the machines to inflate their bellows. Their existence is only possible due to their secure habitat and the symbiotic relationship they have developed with the maintenance workers of Trentham Gardens. |

The inflatables comprise of: a RC anchor foundation, air inlet tube with valve, manifold, electricity cable, moisture, light and temperature sensing steel bud opening mechanism, inflatable cell system (triple layered polyurethane self sealing fibre reinforced membrane). |

Their real 'function' like the trees that surround them has not yet been found but the resultant surface serves as an ideal cushion for lying on whilst observing the falling autumn leaves. | ||||
