A feasibility study for a series sustainable residential dwellings within a grade 2 listed landscape. The proposed buildings intend to recreate an existing boundary between a restored kitchen garden and the hall pleasure gardens, reinstating the original link between them. It was envisaged that the new buildings would add to the rich texture of existing buildings built up over time on the estate. |

It was proposed that the bricks from the existing outhouses were to be retained and reused, echoing the original position of the kitchen garden wall while at the same time providing thermal mass. It was intended that the entire development be heated using a wood chip fuel boiler ensuring extremely high efficiency while reducing the requirement for fossil fuels. Dwellings were situated together to conserve heat energy. Flush storage walls were proposed to free up space for different activities at the same time providing acoustic barriers between the units. |
